Heat and Temperature

Heat is a form of energy that is transferred from one object to another when there is a
temperature difference between the two. We are all very familiar with heat. We can feel hot and
cold objects. We also know what is meant when someone says one object is hotter than the
other. Temperature is a measure of the heat in an object.

There are three widely accepted units of temperature—namely
Kelvin, Celcius and Fahrenheit. Different units are used in different
places. In India and Europe, for example, the degree Celsius is
used widely, whereas in the US Fahrenheit system is used. In the
degree Celsius system, water boils at 100 degrees Celsius and
freezes at 0 degree Celsius. On the other hand, on the Fahrenheit
system these changing of the states of water occur at 212 F and 22
F respectively.
