air quality index (AQI)
phys. A numerical index used to describe the extent to which harmful pollutants (e.g., carbon monoxide, sulfur dioxide) are present in the atmosphere at any given time. The higher the index value, the higher the level of pollutants and thus the greater the likelihood of health effects.
