phys. Code based on the binary number system (which uses a base of 2). In binary code, any number can be expressed as a succession of 1s and 0s. For example, the number 1 is 1, 2 is 10, 3 is 11, 4 is 100, 5 is 101, 17 is 10001, etc. These 1s and 0s can then be interpreted and transmitted electronically as a series of “on” and “off” pulses, the basis for all computers and other digital equipment.
