ཉེས་འགྱུར།
biol. A change in the structure of a gene or chromosome in a cell. A mutation occurs when there is a change in the DNA sequence of a gene or when part of a chromosome is duplicated, deleted, or moved to another location. Mutations occurring in the sex cells, such as an egg or sperm, can be passed from one generation to the next, but mutations occurring in the body cells cannot. Most mutations have harmful effects, but some can improve an organism’s ability to survive.
